Suspected Cop-Killer Arrested in Texas After Manhunt

After an intense manhunt, Houston Police Department officers arrested 44-year-old Ronald “Ronnie” Palmer Jr. The captured fugitive will be charged in connection with the alleged murder of 28-year-old Harris County Deputy Sheriff Fernando Esqueda.

Texas Declares Disaster Areas Ahead of Hurricane Beryl Landfall

Texas officials added 81 additional counties to the state’s disaster declaration in preparation for Hurricane Beryl’s arrival. The storm’s forecasted path shifted the expected landfall to the north and east of previous projections. The latest addition to the disaster declaration list brings the total number of Texas counties to 121.

Texas National Guardsman on Border Deployment Killed in Crash

A Texas Army National Guard soldier died in a two-vehicle crash near the border city of Eagle Pass on Tuesday. Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) officials identified the soldier as 44-year-old Jeremy Vance Randolph of Dallas, Texas. The accident occurred at 1 p.m. on U.S. Highway 277, about 24 miles north of Eagle Pass.

Texas Man Sentenced to 60 Years for Killing 8 Migrants near Border

A Texas jury sentenced George Alvarez, the driver who lost control of his vehicle, killing the migrants outside a homeless shelter in May 2023, to 60 years in prison. Alvarez learned his fate on Friday after deliberations concluded on the eight counts of intoxication manslaughter. Barely one year passed since the eight migrants were killed during an early morning car crash in the border town of Brownsville, Texas.
