U.N. Report Finds 23.7 Million Afghans Dependent on Humanitarian Aid

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) found on Tuesday that three years after the Taliban takeover, 48 percent of Afghanistan’s population is living below the poverty line, 12.4 percent are suffering “food insecurity,” and 23.7 million rely on foreign aid.

Yemen: Ramadan Charity Event Stampede Kills at Least 78

A crowd apparently panicked by gunfire and an electrical explosion stampeded at an event to distribute financial aid during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan in Yemen’s capital late Wednesday, killing at least 78 people and injuring at least 73 others, according to witnesses and Houthi rebel officials.
